At the PVJ Literacy Foundation, we believe literacy is the cornerstone of opportunity, the gateway through which children discover their potential, pursue their dreams, and build brighter futures.

The Foundation was established from a simple but powerful belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed through education. While pursuing his legal education, Founder and Vice Chair Patrick V. Johnson II reflected on the opportunities that literacy, strong mentors, and quality education had created throughout his own life. He also recognized that many students, particularly those in underserved communities, face barriers that limit access to those same opportunities.

That vision was shaped long before the Foundation was created. Raised in a family of educators, Patrick experienced firsthand the lasting impact that teachers, mentors, and community leaders can have on a young person's future. Those values continued to grow during his time at Texas A&M University, where he met Narius Nedd. Together, they served as Maroon Coats for the Texas A&M Foundation, representing one of the nation's largest collegiate philanthropic organizations. Through leadership, service, and engagement with students, alumni, and supporters, they witnessed the power of investing in people and strengthening communities.

Inspired by those experiences, Patrick transformed a lifelong passion for education and service into what is now the PVJ Literacy Foundation.

Today, the Foundation works to advance educational equity by investing in young minds through literacy initiatives, academic scholarships, dedicated mentorship, and meaningful community partnerships. Every program is designed to provide students and families with the resources, encouragement, and opportunities they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

We believe literacy provides far more than the ability to read. It builds confidence, inspires curiosity, develops critical thinking, and empowers children to imagine new possibilities for themselves and their communities. When children are given the opportunity to succeed, they become leaders who create positive change for generations to come.

Every book distributed, every scholarship awarded, every mentor who gives their time, and every community partner who joins our mission brings us one step closer to a future where opportunity grows from the power of reading.
